Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Datasets and Metadata?
Dataset is a collection of raw statistics and information generated by a research study. Metadata is information that is given to describe dataset without exposing identifiable information.
What data is uploaded to the platform?
In the Curator platform it is documentation that describes a dataset without exposing real and identifiable data to the outside world.
Only anonymized metadata files are uploaded to Curator ensuring that no identifiable information is exposed to the platform.
What file format is supported on Curator for metadata files?
Supported file formats are JSON, additional formats to be discussed. Reach our support and they will guide you through the dataset publishing processes, including how to prepare the dataset for upload to Curator.
          Who owns uploaded metadata?
The metadata file is owned by a data owner. Curator has the authorization to process the metadata just to the extent of what is stipulated in the Curator user agreement.
Who is responsible for the reliability of published metadata on Curator?
Data owner takes full responsibility for the published metadata legitimacy and reliability.
Are datasets and collaboration requests identifiable?
Published datasets, as well as collaboration requests, are associated with identifiable user/organization – collaboration partners can see the owner of published dataset and data owners can see who has sent a collaboration request.
Does a data owner need patients' consent to upload metadata on Curator?
Metadata can be uploaded if the data publisher has previously acquired the patient's consent, to use the data in such a way.
For new data collection and dataset creation data owners, including clinical investigators, researchers, etc., can use Themis platform.
